We spent the day hanging out in Detroit with Jonathan Holloway, better known for his stint on Kaitlyn’s season of The Bachelorette, to get his take on what it means to be a modern gentleman.
YOU GOT A DATE CARD, SO HOW ARE YOU GETTING READY TONIGHT
Definitely try to not overdo it. Sometimes you get caught up thinking, what’s going to impress this person, but you have to just be yourself. So whatever style you go into that date with, just own it, make sure you just be yourself.
Also, great hygiene, especially teeth. Make sure you brush your teeth, floss, whatever you need to do, in case you do go in for that kiss, and be well groomed overall. Get a haircut, do your nails, don’t go sloppy. Put some presentation together because this person is kind of interviewing you in a way and asking if you’re someone they could see themselves with.

WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU
Setting a fashion statement. It goes back to confidence, If you have a certain style and you wear it with confidence that’s just going to show. People will always be able to see that with the presentation in yourself. It’s about being confident and going with what works best for you!
A PIECE OF ADVICE FOR SOMEONE TRYING TO FIND THEIR OWN STYLE
Find something you are confident with, that you can wear with pride. Don’t try to be someone who you’re not, just focus on what style you’re happy with! If you like wearing 3-piece suits to the beach, then hey, do whatever you want! Enjoy!

I hang out with my son all the time. We go to the beach, we ride bikes, do arts in crafts. That’s something very important to me that drives me in life, and I try to put a little style into his clothes, which is pretty cool.

A Jameson ginger ale or definitely an old fashioned. If it’s made right, it’s a very good drink.
WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING ON TV
A lot of people try to say they’re portrayed in a certain way on tv, and I feel the way you’re portrayed is the person that you are. Obviously, it’s amplified on TV, but for the most part who you’re portrayed as is who you actually are. It’s all about sticking to who you are and not changing for people.

The April 2015 box, honoring Our Favorite English Soccer Superstar. I mean they’re all great, it was tough to choose! That’s the great thing about the Gentleman’s Box, you get to try new things!
YOU’VE GOT ONE NIGHT HOME IN DETROIT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING
I try to bounce around to everything, there’s a couple little bars that are almost like speakeasies, there’s a cool Whiskey distillery near the old baseball stadium. I just try to see all the new unique places.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT DETROIT’S STYLE
It’s such a blended array of people in Detroit, I think a lot of different fashion styles come together, which is something very unique about Detroit. Let’s say you go to Seattle, you see a lot of plaid, it has that style. Whereas you come to Detroit and you can see that kind of grungey look, and the high fashion, and people take those different styles and try to blend that together. I think that’s a cool part of Detroit. We always try to stand apart, and not just stick with one style. You can have a very urban look, but upscale. There’s a melting pot of style here.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A GENTLEMAN
Respecting others. I think that’s the most important thing. Going through everyday life it can be tough at times to stay positive and be happy so just being respectful to everyone, even if they don’t show respect to you.
Taking care of your family, being respectful of your friends, that makes a man a gentleman. A gentleman always loves his mother and puts her first.
